It’s finally spring, and that brings a busy purchasing season to the real estate world!
Buyers and sellers look to their agent for sound advice, so we wanted to pass along a reminder to help them protect their privacy.
Many buyers know pulling credit is a required part of the home loan process.
What many buyers don’t know is that when credit is pulled, the major credit bureaus are allowed to sell information to lenders and brokers, as well as credit card companies and marketing firms. The lender has no say in this practice, unfortunately.
This practice will drive a flurry of phone calls to clients over the next few days and weeks, creating confusion for our clients and adding additional friction to the homebuying process. Not only are all those unwanted calls an intrusion and an annoyance, but also, the solicitors will often say they are affiliated with the home loan lender. They’re not.
So I want to help you take control of your information and privacy. This is to remind you to opt out before your credit is pulled by visiting www.DoNotCall.gov or calling 1-888-382-1222.
What’s more, individuals can permanently opt out of solicitations by visiting www.optoutprescreen.com1. The major credit bureaus operate the website.
You'll need to share some personal information, such as your name, Social Security number, and date of birth to submit your request.
